The Life Aquatic

A prize made for a lovely lady, who was kind enough to let me post it here as well.

Obstructed

All 32 SMB levels visualized as simple, but complicated.

Landscape

Composed of 30,989 16x16 tiles culled from 150 screenshots of 150 different NES games. First I drew a 3-color template, and then the red, green and blue-aligned tiles were laid out automatically in brightness gradients across the designated areas. Other algorithmic tweaks jittered the tiles ordering to put the sparkle in the water and the stars in the sky. Closeups are below, full-sized png on request!

Lots of Mega Man 3's Snake Man level in this hilltop. Hints of Wizards and Warriors, Kickle Kubicle and Bubble Bobble.

The water is largely made up of actual water tiles. But also a Castlevania skeleton, a Mega Man head and various interface elements in the depths.

Outcome Matrix

can be hard to traverse.

Mario Heat

A small experiment in dimension.

Adventure

This is not a map.

Mario Gaze

Another Castle

Your princess is in it. This is basically unviewable on a computer screen, it begs to be printed 7 feet tall. It is imperative that it be taller than you. The castle, and indeed every part of the scene, is made of tiles from Super Mario Brothers. Detail shots below. Full size png file on request.

Single Frame Speedruns

Suppose you took a complete speedrun of a game and averaged it out into one picture? This is what Super Mario Brothers and Mike Tyson's Punch Out! would look like. Check out these and 18 more over at the single frame speedrun page.

Damaged Links

Warhol meets damage animation palette swaps.

Gradius

A more free form take on the imagery. What was with those easter island heads?
